Did you know that the compass
originally hailed from China?
Compasses were initially created as means of
entertainment - the Earth’s magnetic field
were actually manipulated with arrows and crosses
to impress audiences and customers!
The original compass was soon made - it originated
from the Han Dynasty of China and date from the
Fourth Century BC. This compass was used for navigation
in the high seas.
Soon enough, the Chinese sought the precious
compass for Feng Shui practices. -Dream Pool
Essays-, written by Song dynasty academician
Shen Kua, explained how Feng Shui masters, or
geomancers, would magnetize a needle with lodestone
and use the governing directions for audits and
consultations.
Knowledge of this compass moved overland to the
Arab countries and then to Europe, sometime later
in the twelfth century.
The luo pan, or Feng Shui compass, is not used
for navigation, rather it was employed for Feng
Shui. This ancient creation was used for aligning
houses and cities in harmony with the breaths
and currents of the Earth's forces, which were
partly detected with the aid of the compass.
Today, the luo pan is a crucial tool for precise
measurements in Feng Shui. A true practitioner
or enthusiast should be lugging at least one of
the many versions of the indispensable luo pan
during his or her Feng Shui sojourns.
So that’s
the condensed version of the rich history spanning
centuries regarding the luo pan! |
